Frequently Asked Questions

When are your classes?

Our classes generally run Tuesday - Friday, from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday mornings. We’ll contact you to schedule a time that works for both of us.

Is it safe?

While injuries do happen, we do everything possible to reduce its risk. We teach all classes in a logical, step by step fashion, so you don’t do too much too soon.

Also, most of our schools use the same safety mats used in the 2012 London Olympics.

How often do you recommend attending classes to achieve optimal results?

You get out of it what you put into it. Usually, we recommend at least 6 months of training, with 2-3 classes per week. If you want to get your Black Belt, the average commitment is 3 years.

How old does my child need to be?

We have programs now for kids as young as 2 years old. This varies by school, so call or email us for more specifics.

This is my first martial arts class. Can I still come?

Yes! We offer beginner classes for you. We’d love to have you come in for a free trial class and meet the team here at UpLevel. Just give us a call or email to reserve your spot.

I'm not in good shape. Can you still help me?

Yes! This is one of the major reasons why people take martial arts. We have helped many students get in better shape and look younger.

Do you have women that work out here as well?

Yes. We have quite a few women that work out in our classes. Also, be sure to ask about our self-defense classes for women!

What do I need to bring to my first class?

Your kids! You need to work out with him / her during the first lesson. Also, be sure to come dressed in workout gear, ready to sweat!

How long does it take for a student to become a black belt? And why should I get one?

At UpLevel, if you are training about 2x per week you will earn your black belt in approximately 36 months. Actual training time will vary per student. Also, many employers see a Black Belt as a sign of dedication, perseverance, and ‘stick-to-it-ive-ness’ that is extremely appealing in today's competitive job market.
